In the Deep Blue Orchestra performance, technology is used in a connective way to bring that networking a lot closer and more intimate.

Rally Rhythm is like table lamp which is for the audience members.
The audience is encouraged to touch the table lamp to keep accelerating and illumination of it. When it gets to a certain stage, it sends a trigger signal to the next table lamp. So there is a lovely communal aspect of interactivity happing.

About this project
How does the original prototype look?
[The prototype was exhibited in CreateX 2018, Brisbane]
Theme

“Neighbourhood, and the stories that connect us to place”
Background

A community is not simply a place where people live together, but rather the interactions between the people. Forming bonds are ultimately what ties the neighbourhood and the stories that connect us to place. As more people join a community, the community thrives as it becomes stronger and richer, building momentum.
Brief

Rallying Rhythm focuses on the impetus of a community working together to build a richer experience by uniting the audience with the performers and the space.

It's also a psychological concept, where speed and momentum are determined by the social context or understanding of a scenario.
Design

Impetus is the driving force that causes an object to move. In the context of physics, it’s the kinetic force that gives momentum and makes process or activity happen more quickly or slowly depending on what pushes it along.

In the case of this project, the sense of impetus is determined by the dimming and brightening of the light source. With movement as the carrier of information, the audience become participants rather than spectators.
Theme Scenario of Use
Untouched, the centrepiece only releases a dim pulse in pace with the music. Similarly, an unnurtured community does not reach its full potential.

User testing revealed that people are inclined to touch the interesting texture of the centrepiece. By doing so, they reach out to new experiences and each other.

Participants discover that momentum must be maintained through interacting with the centrepiece. The bigger the involvement, the greater the experience.

Community has a give and take relationship. Through passing the light to other tables, participants share the experience which has a full circle effect. The rallying experience only grows when the whole audience works together.
